Story

This large center stone is a pink Peruvian Opal. It is so lively in radiant pink that it called to be made into something bright from the sea. When the image of round blue dots of color juxtaposed to the glowing pink popped into my mind I saw the design in a flash. It took considerably longer to work out the reality of the design and create the piece, however the effort resulted in this whimsical creation I call “Sea Anemone”. Polished front and back to enhance the glowing pink color the opal was left with the rind on the outer edge, which is the natural outer rock. That organic opal is in contrast to the geometric hemispheres of blue topaz scattered across the piece, the opal slicing through the field of dots. The organic frame is formed from Argentium sterling silver and is hung from a 3 millimeter snake chain of traditional sterling silver finished with a handmade toggle clasp. The jewelry piece is set upon a base of sandstone frozen in time. Three hundred million years ago ocean waves sculpted the soft sand into the ripple pattern you see today. Time and sediment covered the ripples over the next tens of millions of years, compressing and solidifying the wave sand pattern into stone. Giant purple barnacles and a fine silver sea shell join the fanciful sea anemone on this imagined sea floor. Pink Peruvian opal, blue topaz cabochons, Argentium sterling silver, sterling silver chain and clasp, purple barnacle, fine silver shell, Oklahoma sandstone, cypress wood base. 2.5 inches high by 5 inch wide, and hangs 24 inches long With base 9”w x 6”h x 7”d
