Story
An art piece from the “Wearable Sculpture” series by artist Kelly M Noonan Inspired by the stone itself. While cutting a part of the Brazilian agate for another piece I saw the remaining pieces laying in a tray and pictured the completed piece in my mind. The multiple horizontal lines of alternating tan and brown reminded me of the sandstone formation known as The Wave in Arizona on the slopes of the Coyote Buttes in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness. The lines flowing, undulating, and fractured reflecting the primeval history of the rock. The stones are a unique cut being flat and polished on the front, sides, and back. The natural edges were left on the top and bottom of the three agate stones. Hand cut and polished by the artist. This agate is a lovely cream, tan, and brown with cream compact crystals known as drusy at the bottom. The stones are set in a silver flat wire frame using a combination of fixed silver elements and riveted silver bars and accented with two bezel set garnet cabochons like pools of rainwater trapped in the stone valley, a shadowy reflection of the sandstone. This design is a bold geometric statement piece of silver and stones suspended by a neck collar of wire. The piece comes with the custom built display stand formed from Pacific Northwest Douglas Fir.
